I am not sure why the apathy in regards to this history-changing event in our civilization's development, but, while Alienscientist's team is refining variables and other details about the formula, while their spaceship projects go on, advancements of this caliber in our knowledge of physics' laws means ever finer brain scanners able to snatch the fine details of neurons, enough for consciousness to be mapped out from the organic brain into software form,, and processors powerful enough to run this consciousness.
Biased to preferring the fun of immortality rather than the other developments possible? Yes. But that does not mean nanomachines and other science-fiction devices are not going to come, whether our civilization is ready for it or not.
